I'm sure he plays like that all the time.
The traditional way we are taught to play with teeth on top (or not), centered on lower lip, flat chin, etc. is all an amalgam of "best practices" to best produce all those attributes we consider desirable in clarinet tone.
With that said, the truth is...do what works. If your mouth formation lends to playing on the side,...then play on the side. There are a significant number of players of various backgrounds that play their reed instruments to the side.
Would I teach my student to play that way from the beginning? No. If slight adjustments to improve success created that kind of embouchure...I'd certainly consider it.

What Robert said. I myself play slightly off-center due to a chip in one of my front teeth and a general mis-alignment of my bite and jaw. Here's a photo from about 15 years ago...
