For any in the New Haven, CT area, David Shifrin is doing the Nielsen Concerto with the New Haven Symphony at Woolsey Hall in New Haven at 7:30 tonight - 10/29/2015.

Any idea if it will be recorded? He first played it at Interlochen when he was still in high school.

I doubt it is being recorded for other than archival purposes.

The concert was great. At 65, Shifrin can still play his butt off. The only thing I would say is that the recording just released by Julian Bliss might be a little faster in certain passages with faster tonguing but then again I think Julian can double tongue. Don't know if shifrin does. But David's ability to play certain passages fast but really pianissimo is beyond compare. Holding notes in the low register really long and fading off to nothing without going sharp. Excellent interpretation with great emotion. He was really into the performance- lots of body involvement accentuating certain passages not just standing there.

He was playing a horn I've never seen him play before. In the past I've seen what looked a Buffet Tosca, and a Yamaha CSG. Last night his horn was all natural - like a redwood color with a fat barrel - maybe a Backun?

@TomD

Yes, I think Shifrin is one of the latest Backun converts.
