I just noticed a posting for a "C" clarinet by this manufacturer. I am looking for any information on ths manufacturer. Would this be considered a Pro, Intermediate, or student instrument? Could it possibly be a high-pitched "C?" I ask because the wrap-arund register key makes me think it's pretty old. I do plan on asking the owner too. Thanks.

Penzel Mueller was a well regarded American manufacturer of clarinets in the early part of this century. The one on eBay probably dates to about 1915. I have an A and B Flat that match it. I'd say that a PM would qualify as an imtermediate in these days. My repairman said my A would be a good "inexpensive" A but not in the same league as Buffet or Selmer or Leblanc. PM was in business from 1899 to about 1965.
Presence of a wrap around register key does not mean that a clarinet is high pitch... just that the register tube is outside of the bore and therefore needs to be in a position where moisture can not get into it from inside.

I'd like to find out about P.-M. too. I just got one from eBay. i'm curious about models: mine is a "Brilliante." I know also about something called "Bel Canto." Anybody know about Penzel-Muellers? --Bill.

I have 2 P M's, an Artist model 17/6 and an older full Boehm 20/7, both of which still play well, but, as said, are prob. in "intermediate" classification as of now. Back in the 50's I visited the Woodwind "factory" [in a N Y loft-type building]in regard to mp's, and believe that PM was there also, losing out to Selmer and LeBlanc on US cl sales!

Hi guys:
If you find anything on P-M's, email me please. I've got a Artist model L-552-b
She's a beaut with a neat buffet style case fake alligator hide. Did they all have this type of case. Flaired end and quite delicate

I have a P-M Soloist. It has New York, Toronto, Paris stamped on it. I bought it a couple of years ago and joined a community band. When I took it in to get rejuvinated the woman almost started drooling. She said it was about 50 years old and made of Grenidier (?) wood. I would like to know more about my clarinet. There is a number printed on it. I think it plays a little hard but I haven't played for almost 30 years. Other people have tried it and loved it. The sound I'm told is great. I joined our community band and just wondered about the background of my clarinet. Thanks
