Digital Signal Processor...?

It is not a musical term but is used in recording equipment, digital effects and the like.

In what context did you hear it?

Best,

Lizzie--

Give us some more clues.

If you can give us more context, as jv said above, then we might have a better idea of what these letters stand for.

Is this a marking on a music score? Was it a term in an article you read? Is it in a catalogue? Did you hear it mentioned on the radio? For example, "I always pay attention to DSP when I play."

If it was not just a marking on a score then was it used in a sentence? Do you remember what the sentence was?

The more information you can provide, the better.

All I have heard the term used for is Digital Signal Processing. This is just one of the latest high tech terms for processing sound signals (electronically) for better fidelity. It is probably used to process the sound in your cell phone (if you have one of the later ones) for better clarity.

More than likely it is of no consequence to your clarinetting. BTW Lizzie, slow down and smell the roses, take it easy - you're young and *everything* is not an emergency requiring INSTANT response. We're with you here, so just relax.

LIZZIE:

I taught band for 37 years, retired in '90, and have never heard of the term in relationship to band, unles it is something which has just come up during the last couple of yaears. Some one is trying to pull your leg on this, I believe, if they are saying that it has to do with a band term.

If your band is being recorded, then this term probably refers to the capabilities of the recording equipment and would thus be Digital Signal Processing.
