 Selmer Series9/9* Observation/Question

As some of you are aware, the Selmer Series 9 clarinet was a replacement for the Center Tone. It featured a nominal bore of 0.584”. Also introduced at about the same time was the Series 9*, with a smaller bore and a nominal diameter of 0.577”. The Series 9 was positioned as a clarinet for jazz players and the 9* positioned as a clarinet for orchestral players.
I happen to have one of each and recently measured the right hand joints of each instrument. Based on my measurements, the right hand joints of the Series 9 and Series 9* appear to be identical. The placement of the tone holes and the diameter of the tone holes that were relatively easy to measure (without total disassembly) are the same within measuring tolerances.
Is it plausible that the two lower half joints of instruments with different upper joint bore dimensions were designed to be identical ?

I've got both but haven't actually measured the bores on either.

One thing that is instantly apparent by looking down the bore is the 9* has undercut toneholes and the 9 has mostly straight toneholes with some having some undercutting to a much lesser degree.

I ran into a player who had a Series 9 which also had undercut tone holes. Selmer did a lot of different things during that era as far as experimentation.

Silversorcerer- on another thread I suggested that all MOUTHPIECES be marked when modified (skull & crossbones? Mr Yuk?)- look it up. Alas, unless we buy factory fresh (or even from the factory) we have no idea whether we get exactly what the designer intended. So our experiences good or bad may not generalize to other examples of the same item.
