Hi, I´am new in the forum. I`m living in Spain and play since some years the clarinet, more the bass clarinet.
But now I have a question: Exist the Böhm system, the simple system/Albert and the German. But years ago existed a mixed system. Böhm with the little finger simple/Albert system. They was called Jazz-clarinet (whatever Jazz clarinet meens), may be for saxophone players. I´ve seen them only with closed keys. Anyone have seen this system with open ring-keys?

Hi Silversorcerer,
in the history are a lot of clarinet-maker, who made clarinets with closed keys, from Amati over Noblet to Selmer and much more. You can see in the foto in the question a clarinet with a mixed fingering-system Böhm/Albert. Exist this system with open/ring keys?

Our local repair guy is principally an oboist. I was there getting my clarinet adjusted and he showed me his plateau system clarinet. Interesting looking thing; I don't know where he plays it but he does play it on occasion.

Richard Keilwerth Co in Germany, among other makers, produced some of these covered hole "saxophone fingering clarinets" ; they were intended to be very similar to saxophone fingering therefore I don't believe you will find any horns of this kind with open holes (rings). These horns are different from either plateau-key boehm clarinets or plateau-key Albert-system clarinets.

Looked again at the picture and I think that is likely a Keilwerth. They stenciled a number of these for other companies such as Lindberg in Muenchen and Reisser in Ulm/Donau. This system does not have an open ring version AFAIK. It's probably HP too.

it was soled for a noname clarinet.

I used a closed-hole clarinet for a while when I had carpal tunnel syndrome. I was able to find a Vito Plateau clarinet almost identical to the one mentioned on EBay in almost as-new condition for a very modest price. The transition from standard 17/6 Boehm to plateau took about 10 seconds, and I did a jazz gig on it the night it arrived. It solved my difficulties completely and enabled me to continue to play until I had the problem surgically corrected.
