"Glance" and "Store" are somewhat ambiguous terms to me. I don't quite know if your asking about apps to play music (which might be odd since iOS of course provides audible music storage and play) or ones to store and view it in printed form.
Maybe I'll just talk of some of the music apps I like.
iLift: stores and plays audible music allowing for independent pitch and tempo change.
TE Tuner: A good metronome and tuning product.
TurboScan: Great for taking hard copy of music and turning it into PDF format for view and reproduction; copyrights notwithstanding.
Then there's SmartMusic, which is a website, not an app.

For storing PDF sheet music, forScore is really good. I know a couple of people who've used it on gigs playing musicals (using a bluetooth connected foot pedal to turn the pages), but I don't...I still prefer paper when performing.
For practicing, though, it's nice way to have a large library of music on a single device.

I second forScore.
For your purpose, scan your music or download it from IMSLP, add it to your DropBox account, then access through the app or download for offline use. Tedious, but once you've done it, it's done. I carry around an iPad Air with just about my entire music library on it!

The pay version of the Music Notes app that connects with their digital sheet music store has the ability to import PDFs from other sources, but is a little cumbersome for imports. I've mostly used it for playing music I purchase from them - it is optimized for that purpose and works quite well.

forScore has pretty powerful features for annotating music. There are symbols that you can add in (flats, sharps, etc), or you can draw right in the music (a stylus is helpful).

I'm another fan of ForScore. I just finished a four month cruise gig, and that app was absolutely great. The marking capabilities are quite good. Some kind of page turner like an AirTurn is essential if you're playing multi page charts.

I think I might pursue this. I've thought about it before. I'm currently playing (and printing!) lots of chamber music from IMSLP. I'll be going to a week-long workshop soon.
One last question. What have you found to be the best way to secure the iPad? Do you have a special stand for it, or do you secure it to a music stand somehow? The last thing I want to do is have it falling. I don't think it will hold up as well as my Korg metronome does, which too frequently travels from my music stand to the floor.

Just seconding Nellsonic's question--the iPad strikes me as a lot of mass & weight in a fairly small slippery package. Does anyone have recommendations for a more or less bulletproof case that doesn't take up more space than the iPad itself?

I use a Lifeproof case. It may seem bulky, but it's waterproof, and will certainly protect your iPad quite well.
