New low Eb BC: Buffet or Leblanc?
Author: Mike Blinn

Hello bass clarinet players:

I'm shopping around for a new wood BC, around $5000 or so. There are two on ebay: a Leblanc and a Buffet, both demo models, selling for $4500. Any recommendation? I can try the Buffet which is about two hours away from my home, but the Leblanc (which is my first choice) is across the country.

This is the first and probably last wood bass clarinet I shall buy. I can afford better if advised.

Sorry if this is not helpful, but I'd personally look for a 2nd hand Selmer (bass to low E flat). The Selmer pro bass clarinets from the 1970s/80s were really good, and like you I don't really see a need for the low D/C for what I'd want it for.
