 "Fashionable" section playing
Author: KenJarczyk

It is always fascinating getting to understand intonation issues in a section. Not to boast, but after half a century of playing, I know where I'm at, as far as tuning, all the time.

To be kind, when others seem to be oblivious to their intonation - I often offer "Fashion Advice."

I will tell someone "The fashion report from New York is in! They're showing more cork this season!" (Or, of course "less cork" if that is the needed direction!)

I don't mean to be too critical, but I don't think that is always possible. Perhaps some in the section are tuning to the dominant voice in the room at the time (to heck with the section) and that may sound like their out of tune ......period (or that could be you). Perhaps everyone else is eight cents sharp and you are closer to the Korg but that would place you out of tune ...... period.

The best one can hope for is a situation where things are not ideal is to find the best compromise and hope you're not the one causing the problem.

Sorry Ken, I miss read your post in haste. It came of snarky on my initial reading. I just wanted to address being more diplomatic in rehearsals.

Sorry.
