Ya know, just from the photo of the outside, it almost looks like the extra stuff is actually a series of four rollers on which the reed sits.
Is that correct? If so, that could be interesting.

I'll try to get more pictures soon I did not buy the thing and the owners of the store seemed suspicious of me looking at it so hard any way...
I can say the inside looked a lot like a Bonade or a one of the Vandorens with the plate system in it...
The screws felt very even and were very smooth so I think it was a nice Lig back in the day (the mouthpiece was newer than the clarinet as well. did not even think about look at that since it was chipped *Dumb)
I'll try to get a picture up soon but here's an idea of what it looked like.

I'm with Ken on this. No reason to believe that it plays any different than any other metal ligature. (But then, I'm just using a bit of two sided velcro, cut so that it wraps around the mouthpiece neatly. Works great.

So...do they want to sell it or not then?

I used to wrap with string. As you say, time consuming. And for some reason it string would disappear from the case. Once I started wearing crocs, I didn't have a spare. That's when I started using velcro. Works about the same and for me, better than the expensive & fancy jobs.
