Why are clarinets in marching band? This is coming from someone who marches clarinet. But honestly, why?

Because the whole band marches. You can't have a third of the members standing on the sidelines.

There are marching band programs in which the woodwinds are an important musical element. I'm sorry that not everyone who marches gets to have that experience.
