Mark,

Steve Cohen here responding to your note to John Reeks regarding the people upset about the Hilton policies. We are only too happy to address any and all concerns that people have as we move along. We are determined to make everything run as smoothly as possible but we are all learning as we go. This business of doing the convention at a hotel has definite pros and cons!

Anyway, the Hilton policy (and all New Orleans hotels have this policy), is for them to charge the first night's stay within 10 days of making your reservation. It is perhaps a surprise to some but here in this heavily tourist oriented town it is standard operating procedure. Rest assured that anyone who cancels at least 72 hours prior to arrival will get their money refunded.

This is all stipulated in our contract with the Hilton and I think it is a good contract since we have a much lower rate from anywhere else in town that's comparable and we confirmed this rate almost 3 years in advance of the convention dates.

I hope that all of the people who are upset will take the time to check further or they can feel free to contact me directly and I'll be happy to explain the policy. We greatly appreciate the service you provide for clarinetists and hope that one and all will join us on August 15 for a wonderful conference.

All the best,

Steve Cohen

Just curious, if Sneezy.org isn't sponsoring a booth and a non-profit organization, what if any is their involvement and/or affiliation with the convention outside of relaying courtesy information on the particulars of the stay?

Sneezy.Org is not a non-profit organization (though in essence I'm not making any money at, unfortunately); the ICA is both a sponsor and a client.

Mark, thank you for the information. I hope to see you at the convention, introduce myself and shake your hand! <:-)
