 Yamaha E Flat clarinets

Does anybody have any experience with the Yamaha E flats? Either the 681 or 881, which are considered to be the pro and custom lines. How do they compare with those of other manufacturers?

Hi,
I am now playing on a friend's 681 Eb and although I have not tried other pro models or equivalents, I think they should be seriously considered.
I am using the stock mouthpiece that came with it. Mine has a little (just a little) blowing resistance which suits me just fine. I really love its tone, which is not too piercing and as for intonation, I personally think it's as good as any clarinet, Bb or Eb can get.
Do try it first!

I have been playing a 681 for about ten years and am currently using a stock Selmer HS** mp with a Bb BG lig (works for me). The sound is great and the scale is even and as well in tune as Ebs can get.

I have a 681 & like it very much. While your mileage may vary, its been my experience with Yamaha Bb, A & Eb clarinets ... that they tune consistently. I have a Yamaha CX & a YCL72 in Bb. I like the keywork better on my R-13, but would be hard pressed to saying anything else was better on my R-13. On an Eefer the keywork is so small, whether it be a Buffet or Yamaha, I can't say that I have noticed a big difference in feel. I have test played R-13 Eefers several times at ClarinetFest and other large exhibitions. (my Bundy Eefer has what seems to be more comfortable keywork --- but I don't know what to attribute that feeling to & I have never measured the Bundy Eefer keywork vs. another Eefer (just never took the time --- are the tone holes further apart? don't know ... )

I also have a Selmer (B15) Series 9 Eefer that is awaiting overhaul. I have heard nice things about the Selmers, but can't speak firsthand about them.

Best,
mw
