Dear Everyone!
I have accidentally chipped at my M15 and thus I need a new mouthpiece (stupid braces).
What mouthpieces do you recommend that are inexpensive yet awesome?
Maybe something custom made? I want a sound darker than my M15.

I would love, ideally, for the mouthpiece to serve a classical and a jazz/klezmer goal... dark tone for one reed type and bright for the other. Both sounds need to project.

Try the Ridenour Encore mouthpiece. Dirt cheap and dark.

I don't recommend the Vandoren B45 as I believe the tip opening is way to large, and yet that's Vandoren's all purpose mouthpiece.
You want dark...Vandoren M30D...D for Deusche as in German. Yes, it fits Boehm clarinets like Buffet/Selmer. Yes, sometimes it comes out a tad longer on the barrel. No, it doesn't affect intonation.
My suggestion....stay with the M15, and slowly experiment with other mouthpieces that might be more all purpose for you. Even consider different mouthpieces for different genres of music.
How are braces, which normally do not contact the tips of teeth, breaking mouthpiece tips????

I didn't suggest the Vandorens because I thought one factor was "inexpensive" ...
I only briefly played an Encore ... you gotta get one and decide. You can return it if not what you like ... Call Ted Ridenour and talk to him ... he's friendly and loves to talk shop and help you out. I've heard that Tom Ridenour's professional MPs are responsive, warm, covered and "cushioned" ...
I am also a Vandoren fan ... and I don't go for really, really open MPs, anymore ... Try the M13 with Legere Classic #3 to 3.25 ... warm, compact, uniform throughout the registers with nice hold. The M30D would certainly be dark chocolate, while the M13 would be milk chocolate. With good air delivery system, embouchure and reed, the M13 plays plenty loud.

Try as many of the suggestions as you can. Are familiar with the musical equipment supply shops with trail policies?
If not, I (an others) can provide them.
Two pros, hired at different times for my community band, and not knowing each other, both play M30D's. So does Jon Manasse I believe. Here's one doing one of the definitive works spanning the classical and jazz genres (the Copland). Of course you make the sound, not the mouthpiece, but the latter helps.

I love the mouthpiece, but I cannot play 3 hours on it given its wider tip. I am an M15 player.
Note for comparison purposes that the M15 has a 1.035 mm tip opening and long facing, and the M30D is 1.15mm also on a long facing.
I cannot speak to the differences (it might be thicker rail width of the M30D or nothing) between the M30 and the M30D, if any. Perhaps someone else knows.
All this said, if the mouthpiece ain't broken (I mean in terms of giving you what you need, not its physical state) why fix it Nathan?
"Inexpensive yet awesome and maybe something custom made," often don't go together in the clarinet mouthpiece world. When you say inexpensive, what do you consider an M15 to be on your own assessment continuim of price?
I hope I am not biased because I play the M15.
Much better than the B45, consider trying also a Masters CL5 (that's the middle of the road mouthpiece for the collection of 3 Masters mouthpieces).

Do note that many players find their metal ligs too big for it, and Vandoren only sanctions use of their M/O FOR MASTERS metal ligs or flexible ligs (string, cloth, leather) for them. I didn't say M/O lig., I said M/O for Masters lig., with the "M" emblazened on the item.
