 Eb Clarinet Mouthpiece

Hi all. I am a high school student who has recently started playing Eb clarinet and am loving it. I had been interested in learning it for years, and I recently got an old Yamaha YCL-681, and I am loving it. I am by no means very good at it yet, but I am happy to put in the time to learn it. The instrument came with a mouthpiece, but I am pretty sure it is really bad; it feels like cheep plastic, and there are no markings on it to identify the brand or model, and I feel it is holding back my sound. I am looking to upgrade my mouthpiece (and ligature for the matter). I remember how big the difference was when I upgraded my Bb mouthpiece to a Vandoren B45, and am hoping to have similar results with this. I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for mouthpieces (or ligatures, but that is less important at the time) for me.

I would recommend trying as many as you can.
I've heard good things about the Clark Forbes Eb.

Leonard Bernstein: "To achieve great things, two things are needed; a plan, and not quite enough time."

Another high school Eb player here.
I've tried my teacher's Clark Fobes Eb mouthpiece and it was excellent. I'm using a Vandoren 5RV Eb mouthpiece at the moment, which is also pretty good, but I much prefer the Fobes.

As a good mouthpiece to start at I would recommend Vandoren B40. They are cheep and stores usually have several in stock you can try. B40 has a slightly wider tip rail that mutes the highest overtones so the sound does not get so shrill and unpleasant. This also makes it possible to use slightly softer reeds and still make a nice dark sound.

I second Vandoren B40.
Due to wider tip rails it also works nicely with B-flat reeds.

I had a B40 also -- seems to be the lingua franca for Eb mouthpieces.
