 Oklahoma University Clarinet Symposium

Anyone have knowledge of whether there will be a Clarinet Symposium at Oklahoma University this year?

Till a few days ago, only the 2014 pages were up; now, the site link just displays a web server information page.

If it's defunct, it's a sad thing - I really enjoyed the prior years.

About two weeks ago I asked about the OU Symposium on their Facebook page (www.facebook.com/OUClarinetSymposium) and never received a response. I recently read an article suggesting the Texas Clarinet Colloquium in Dallas as an alternative.

I've considered emailing the OU clarinet professor, but the answer looks pretty obvious. Perhaps there is an OU student reading the bulletin board...?

Had the same idea; just emailed Dr. Tirk. Will post here if I get an update.

Don't be surprised if U of O staff and students are tied up today in what I heard on the news was a mandatory meeting of all related to the recent matter in the news of bigotry by members of the Sigma Alpha Epsion fraternity's Chapter at the school.

This incident reminds me of why I like music so much: it's color blind.

Just a note that the Texas Clarinet Colloquium (mentioned above) is over - it was in February.

Not quite over.

I found the article that mentioned the discontinuance of the OU event

https://clarinetmike.wordpress.com/2014/11/14/texas-sized-news-clarinet-colloquium-2015-downtown-dallas-texas-june-11-13-2015/

then the web site of the Dallas event itself at

http://clarinetcolloquium.com/

in June 2015.

Thanks for that second link. I got the February dates from this page:

http://www.tamuc.edu/academics/colleges/humanitiessocialsciencesarts/departments/music/TexasClarinetColloquium.aspx

So clearly a few links are not yet updated.

From Dr. Druhan's note: "When members of the music industry were notified that the OU Clarinet Symposium was going to be discontinued indefinitely" - hard to know what that means, given that the Symposium was on hiatus for a couple years after Dr. Etheridge's passing.

Sad, though, if the Symposium is no more; but a more general announcement would be welcome.

I guess my post from last week is invisible.

Xarkon, the February event at TAMU-Commerce was cancelled due to winter weather. This was a mostly student run event, which had been held for a number of years. Its being replaced by a much larger event in June, organized by Dr. Druhan.

The details are here: http://clarinetcolloquium.com/

I received email confirmation from Dr. Tirk today that the Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium has been discontinued. She plans to update the Facebook page, and recommended the Clarinet Colloquium.

Sad to hear that the symposium has ended, but will check out the colloquium.

I went to the OU Symposium few years ago since every attempt to attend the national thingy on my part was thwarted. I was very impressed with all the presenters and vendors in who where there. For those who are in the 'bread basket' area of the country and find it hard to travel far, it was an incredible experience on par with 'bigger' events.

I hope it finds another incarnation.
