I saw this book in the Dover catalog and thought it might be interesting. Has anyone ever read "The Clarinet and Clarinet Playing" by David Pino. There is a positive review from "Clarinet" magazine (International Clarinet Society)

Yes, I read it, and picked up a lot of things I didn't know before. His section on reed adjustment was especially helpful for me. You'll get lots of different opinions about his method of tonguing. In any case, I thought it was well worth the investment.

I think it's well written, and has lots of good information. Easily worth the list price at $9.95.

From the standpoint of a beginner, Mr. Pinot's book was/is *very* helpfull. I started reading it before I got my clarinet last September. I've read it and I am rereading it (just finished his discussion of barrels) now that I am smarter (grin) about clarineting.
The information is more sensible now that I have a clarinet and have had such a great education here on the BB. A lot of what he talks about went over my head when I knew less than I do now. Also, another must-have book is "The Art of Clarinet Playing", by Keith Stein.

I second on the Pino--I think it's useful at all levels of playing, and really my main clarinet book during the time I was self-taught on the instrument. I still refer to it fairly regularly.

I read the book when I was in university (about 5 years ago) and found a lot of the advice invaluable. I really reccomend that you go through it.

Just one more person here echoing the praises of David Pino's book. It made great sense when I was self teaching myself. Now that I am taking lessons again, a lot of what my teacher tells me is similar to what is in the book. Don't hesitate on buying it.
