Selmer

I had a question about Selmer. What is the difference between Selmer Paris and Selmer? And what is Conn-Selmer? I am really confused. I've been looking at their horns and their are a lot of clarinets with different labels on them. Can anyone enlighten me?

Selmer Paris make pro level instruments whereas Selmer USA generally make student level instruments.

Conn-Selmer is an amalgamation of several companies all in one large group instead of separate groups or companies as most once were.

Conn-Selmer can be more accurately thought of as "Conn-Selmer USA".

If a Selmer clarinet or sax doesn't have the Henri Selmer Paris wreath logo, it's a Selmer USA instrument built in Elkhart, Indiana.

United Musical Instruments, Leblanc USA, and Selmer USA make up Conn-Selmer. All three of these concerns acquired a number of instrument makers over the years.

United Musical Instruments clarinets include Armstrong, Artley, Conn, Henkin, and King.
Leblanc USA clarinet brands include Vito, Holton, and the Leblanc USA instruments.
Selmer USA marques include Buescher/Aristocrat, Bundy (vintage), Selmer USA, and Signet.

The company known as Selmer Paris is a independent and privately owned company, based in Paris, France and run by descendants of Henri Selmer. The company known as Conn-Selmer (or Selmer USA) is an American based conglomerate which has a an agreement to market Selmer Paris instruments in the United States. Conn-Selmer and the Steinway Piano Company actually merged in 1995 with Steinway being the parent company. Steinway is currently a privately held company.
