first of all hello everyone.OK-- i am wanting to sell my E11 clarinet that i got this past year to help pay for the new leblanc i might get.It was purches last april.The keys are still as shinny as the were when i first got the clarinet(i polish the keys after every performance)the wood is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips ( i also swab it out after every performance) it has two mouthpiece and a tuner and a blue por-tec case i got for christmas--but my question is how much do you all think is a fair price i should ask for it? I am wanting to get the best value out of it i can! please help!!!!!! thnks in advance----corey

Your clarinet is worth what someone will pay for it. It could be "invaluable" to you if it holds sentimental value.
As for a E-11, I sold one once for $500 that was used for less than 6 months. It, too, was brand new when purchased.
That's my $0.02 worth.

The wwandbw sells a new E-11 for $549. So, a smart shopper is not going to exceed this price for a one year old E-11. The wwandbw buy-back policy, for instruments purchased from them, is 60% during the first year. So, perhaps $330 is the lowest you should sell it for. If it were my E-11 I'd try to get something between these two amounts, like $450 - assuming the clarinet is in excellent condition, and needs no work, and you sell it on approval.
Yes, study the E-11 sales on eBay. Look at buy-it-now prices, and the closing auction prices. The selling prices can change significantly during the few minutes before an auction closes. Watch the Sneezy classifieds for E-11s, and considering trying to list it there, and/or on eBay.

To get the best price for it, sell it through a local ad. This way purchasers can see it, hold it, and even try it out. You may need some patience though as it may take awhile.
eBay is good if you want to sell it fast but you won't get top dollar as purchasers can't see it, hold it, or try it. Also a smart eBay buyer will assume that it will need at least a partial overhaul regardless of what the seller says in his/her listing and so will not be willing to bid top dollar.

The market is also related to annual demand.
When do the kids in your area begin to study for the school band?
I recommend you let your teacher (or band director) know that the E-11 is available. Set the price at your lowest 'comfort level'. If you can get 50% of the lowest retail price, take it.
If not, this is the sort of horn I buy, after it sits in a closet for 20 years!
Remember that you did get some use from the instrument and that had value.

This is not a particularly great time to sell a Clarinet, particularly a student model (although the E-11, IMO, is a great intermediate clarinet -- its a great instrument & has many features that Buffet is famous for, minus Buffet "Poly" bore).
I would wait until (the start of school) late August or early September. At that time a mint Buffet E-11 will sell for $450-525. Since new E-11's are available from IMS & WW&BW for $590-600 w/full warranty,etc. ... eBay won't bring any more for a used instrument. Some dealers ahve been selling new E-11's over $600 on eBay ... obviously to people who grab at a better price, thinking the discounting ends there.
If you have the original case, then you should sell the instrument "stock" as it will appear "as NEW". Questions are always asked when the original Buffet case is not available, even though many people will view the Pro-Tec case as a "stepup". (I do), particularly over the cheaper Black plastic "can't open, but we know it wiill" case. IMS & WW&BW sell the nicer, brown plastic ovecered wood frame case.
Patience will definitely get you more $$$.

but wouldn't the better case and tuner with it bring it more money? kids in my are start taking band lessons through school at about 5th grade(at least that's when i started)

Decent tuners are only about $25 brand new so wouldn't add to the value. Also the better case would now only be worth about 1/2 of what it was new. The thing to keep in mind is that most purchasers are parents, who are after bargains if they buy used equipment.

I think it totally depends on who you are trying to market your clarinet to. If you're selling a R-13 clarinet that has sat in the garage for 20 years and has a beat-up case, you might be able to sell the clarinet regardless of the condition of the case. Cases can be replaced and those looking for a horn to invest in, won't mind investing into a newer case. I bought a new leather R-13 case because the old one was trashed.
Now, if you're looking to sell to a parent, or someone on a budget, you'll want to have a good looking original case. If the original case is messed up, I'd get a similar case from WWandBW - especially from the same make.

Good secondhand E-11's tend to go for around £300-£400 but they are in short supply and high demand as is any used wooden beginner/intermediate clarinet of half decent quality but that's just the U.K picture.
