 Marcus bonna vs BAM traveler

Hello,

I'm about to purchase a new double case and these two seem to be the best in terms of size, weight, storage room and quality.

The new BAM High Tech Traveler supposedly weighs 2.2kg. Does anyone know the weight or dimensions for the Marcus Bonna? I have googled for hours without finding anything!

Has anyone had the chance to try both of these cases? Which one did you prefer?

The Marcus bonna seems to have room for reeds and accessories inside the case (where you otherwise can put an eb clarinet), whereas with the BAM the reeds and accessories need to go in the outside compartment, which then makes the case a bit thicker. On the other hand, if you do need to carry a lot of accessories, it seems to me that the BAM has more storage space thanks to the expandable compartment. Ample storage space while being as compact and light as possible is important to me because I travel quite frequently.

They are both ridiculously and equally expensive, so that's not a factor when comparing them.

I would recommend emailing Bonna about the case weight. I personally don't like rummaging around for my accessories in one big ol' pouch. Even if the interior space of the Bonna isn't enough, it still has two large exterior pouches where you can stick more stuff. The MB cases also utilize suspension of the joints to minimize contact between case and instrument. The BAM cases are all molded around an RC, so if you're playing on an R13 there will be 3mm of wiggle room on the lower joint. Depending on your make/model you may feel like you're smooshing it in there. I would recommend the Bonna, but I don't know how well they hold up over time. I've spent time with some at trade shows but have never owned a MB case.

I hope that helps!

Thank you James for your input! I will email Bonna regarding the case weight and post back here.

Regarding BAM and how their cases are molded for RC, would that be a problem for me as I play Festivals? I don't know if the Festival's dimensions are more like the RC or the R13..

Maybe it would be a problem? The Festival upper joint is the same as the R13's. The lower joint of the Festival is 1 mm longer than the R13s, which makes it 2mm shorter than the RC!
