I played in that when I was in high school during the 60's. Watch out for the jellyfish if you go to the beach. It used to be a tough contest, but we always did really well.

Lizzie,
One of my favorite memories was going to San Fransisco to march in the Chinese New Year's Day parade. We stayed at the ITT Sheraton for 3 days and hung out at Fisherman's Wharf, Hard Rock Cafe and Pier 39. We were judged as well, and we (the whole marching band) was invited to play in Singapore! Well, it wasn't a free trip ($2000 a piece) but it was great nonetheless. I've heard that my high school marching band recently performed in the Millenium Band in the Sydney, Australia 2000 Summer Olympics. Now THAT'S a band trip!

I just realized what I wrote and so I ought to correct it. It was great to go to San Fransisco, but $2000 per person was too much to send the band to Singapore. We did have a great time in San Fransisco.
Now Sydney, would be a place to go!

Hey Dave, I am from Singapore.
When was that trip to SIngapore supposed to be?
Singapore's a small island and the 'band scene' is rather close and quit active; in a way, everybody knows everybody else.
It's just so exciting and fun whenever a 'visitor' comes along!

We were judged in the parade in 1993, so I think the trip was supposed to be in 1994. It was only a couple of years after the "caning" too. I think our director might have been just a little bit worried about that too - knowing how wild we were as a band!
