 Mouthpiece containers
Author: RefacerMan

Does anyone know where I can get clear plastic mouthpiece containers. These are individual containers with a black end cap that some mouthpieces are sold in. I already use plastic tackle boxes for mass storage, but I need the individual containers. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Try WWBW.com (wood wind brass wind) and this will give you suggestions about where to find these things. Whatever you do, make sure to keep them clean and taken care of.

The Container Store has tons of clear containers of every imaginable size, though you will have to provide the "end cap" (foam should suffice) you seek.

They don't appear to have a presense in LA (the State, not the city), but their website carries lots of their items.

Call customer service, tell them the smallest rectangle size that will encompass your mouthpiece and end caps, and they should be able to come up with a box (in the $2.00 range) that comes close in size to your desired dimensions.

I've used their small clear plastic boxes, which range in pill size to multiple boot storage size to store all sorts of clarinet nicknacks.

I took a mouthpiece to a local friendly pharmacy and asked if they had a pill vial that would fit it. They let me try different sizes and I found one that was perfect. I put a piece of plastic foam at the bottom to protect the tip. The pharmacist didn't even charge me for it.

I think Mr. Porter's suggestion an excellent one: the right size invariably cylindrical bottle being a great place to store a mouthpiece, not to mention its tint, likely UV ray blocking, to serve well for long term storage.

I think Mr. Porter's suggestion an excellent one: the right size invariably cylindrical bottle being a great place to store a mouthpiece, not to mention the bottle's usual tint, likely UV ray blocking, serving the mouthpiece well long term storage.

If that doesn't work out, the Container Store's box number 10054860 is semi clear (think Tupperware lid, not completely clear), 3.25" X 1"H X 4.5" in size, and great for storing 1 or 2 mouthpieces, sans ligature or cap.

It closes in a way that require you to flip a tab to open it. It's height seems just right to apply the least pressure on the base of the mouthpiece to prevent it from moving up/down left/right sans end caps. Rotate the box on its long side through and the mouthpiece will arc around the point where the box just pinches the mouthpiece's base, again sans end caps.
