Does anybody collect vintage reeds? I collect metal
clarinets. Others collect vintage mouthpieces, instrument
catalogs, scores, recordings, etc.
Somebody has offered me some (most likely) pre 1930 reeds.
Should I be curious? Did comparable strength reeds used to sound different?

I don't know that vintage reeds are all that collectible, but then people do collect all sorts of stuff. That said, I do have some reeds that I have found over the years with unusual names or designs that I've kept as curiosities. I'm not sure I'd actually buy any tho...LOL
I bought a metal clarinet on eBay last fall and it came with a partial box of reeds that could easily be from the late 30s. I found an ad for them in a 1938 Down Beat with a photograph of the exact same box design. I haven't tried them yet, I did toss all of the ones that were obviously played on.

I have much the same comments as above, I do have a number of the old "Vibrator" [shorties] and a few more saved from old horn cases and will look them up in case of any interest
