So, I was nosing around in a Junk Shop and picked up a Normandy 10, for $40.00
The wood is in pretty good shape, but it will need new pads, and corks.
The keys will need to be cleaned and adjusted.
This is a problem however as the B key over the A key was snapped off at the axis and the part that covers the hole is missing.
Also I noted that the key at the part where your finger presses down has a little metal rest on the underside to stop it....my Normandy 4 however has a pin in the wood to stop the key
I'm just wondering if it would be worthwhile to do an overhaul on this horn?
Ive already got a Normandy 4 ( circa mid 80's)which sounds quite good, any reason to think this Normandy 10 after being overhauled would sound better?
How easy will it be for my repairman to find a replacement key and what would be the cost?
I would not have even bought this Normandy 10, but my Normandy 4 has a hairline crack in the top part of the LH section and it needs to be pinned after failing super glue several times.
So really overhaul the 10 with a new key or pin the 4?

Depends on why you're overhauling it. Whatever you put into it, you'll have a decent student-level clarinet.

More than you paid for the instrument.

Having the 4 pinned will be less expensive. But you have both instruments and neither is really salable (or probably usable) without having the work done. If you can afford it, why not do both and see what you end up with. At that point, you could choose one to play and sell the other or keep it as a spare.
