Since the Gonzalez GD has released for two years, is any one still using it?
I have checked the Gonzalez official website, but could not find the GD strength comparing on their chart.
Can some people describe how does it compare to the V12 or 56 Rue Lepic?
I had tried the F.O.F before, but did not have luck with it.
I am using Grabner G13 mouthpiece and V12 #3.5 reed.
Thanks

I had a series of the Gonzalez reeds to try including the GD. I found them very strong and had to go down a 1/4 strength across the board. I think in the end, I found the sound lacking a 'center' or 'spine' compared with Vandoren (particularly the 56 Rue Lepic). The good quality about them is that most of the reeds of a box of ten are very usable. So if you find that they work for you, there will be more of them to use than what you get out of a box of Vandoren.

I also rejected FOF's- maybe I was using too low a number, but even with ATG adjustments I could not get enough oomph from them.
I have a collection of GD's that I played for a while and I thought I was hooked on. I agree they're a bit on the strong side but whether you should go down 1/4?- you'd have to experiment. I also agree that the playable number you get from a box is high. But sadly, I also agree that the sound is not as good- when I switched back to Vandoren blues, I was like- wow, that sounds nice! But the GD's are still in my cabinet, and surely one day I'll play them again and probably like them, at least for a day or 2, LOL.

About a year ago I was playing GD #3s on a 1.16/ML facing. Initially, I felt they were great (big sound, good response), but began to had difficulty getting them to play without effort, mostly because they were a bit hard (perhaps 2.75 might have been better). Since then I've found VD Traditional #3 to be a good choice, though they don't quite have the big sound of the GDs. In the last 2-3 months I've all but switched to the D'addario Reserve (not Classic) #3 reeds. I feel they have a better sound than the VDs and even the GDs. They also seem to be about the right strength without having to soften them on a Reed Wizard. However, I think the response of the GDs and VDs are probably superior to the Reserves.

Just beginning my 2nd GD box as I shared many from the first box. I still prefer them especially when I want a consistent sound over a wide range (includ. upper altissimo). As I've said in other posts, they demand more but give more. I do find them slightly harder. My other favorite is Xilema.

I think there are a lot of good qualities in the GD and are worth a try. I found them to be perhaps 1/4 to 1/2 strength on the hard side. If interested, I would try a couple of strengths to see what may work for you.
