Yet Another Quality Entry Level Clarinet

One of my recent students ,an adult turned up for her first lesson with a new plastic entry level Clarinet that her husband purchased for her.
It's call the Nuova and has 'Made in China ' stamped on it. From the little time I've had to play this beginners Clarinet it looks to be of the same quality as the Yamaha & Jupiter instruments. Looking this Clarinet up on the internet it is said to be made by the same company that makes the Jupiter although the Jupiter is said to be made in Taiwan.
Has anyone else had any experience with this new plastic beginners Clarinet?

My Jupiter Bass has a "China" sticker on its body, so I assume that at least some parts of their instruments are manufactured in China.

What are your personal impressions of that instrument?

This Nuova Bb Soprano Clarinet has the 'Made in China' actually stamped into the plastic on the lower end of the bottom joint. My first impressions of this student Clarinet is as I said , positive as it seems to be of the same quality as the Jupiter and Yamaha plastic Clarinets. One thing I also noticed on the Nuova that my student has is that there''s an excellent adjustable thumb rest. The settings are more wider than any other adjustable thumb rest I"ve seen. A very nice feature.

About 5 years ago a lady in the community band that I play with brought her Chinese-built clarinet to me for repair of a bent key. I didn't hold out much hope for success when she told me that she'd bought it at an Aldi store for $95.99, but on examination it appeared to be identical to a Yamaha YCL26 that I had to hand. Fit and finish were excellent and the key material was strong and well made. Pads were good quality fishskin and the case was the same as the compact Yamaha case. The mouthpiece that came with it was a generic that played like the Yamaha student mouthpiece. The only difference I could detect between the instruments was that one had Yamaha on it and the other had another name on it. Tuning was as good as most student instruments and she is still playing it today.

Yes Chris, that's it. Pity it doesn't show the adjustable thumb rest.

Back in the '90s the basic Jupiter plastic clarinet looked exactly like this and also stated it was made in Jupiter's factory in China on the info on the bell.
