Greetings,
I saw those on the Legere website but I could not find an online vendor that sells them, and that includes the legere.com online store as well.
Are these available?

Hi John.....have you had an opportunity to review these as yet? I guess the first question has to be, are they twice as good as the standard bass reeds given that
they appear to be close to twice the cost.
When were they released?

OK I just got it today and spent about an hour playing Rose etudes and Bach cello suites. I like it a lot. My usual cane reed is a blue box Vandoren 3.5 and I also use regular Legere 3.0's. The Signature 3.0 has a bit more resistance (than the regular Legere 3.0) and control. All registers speak easily, all dynamics as well, sound is still rich. I think for me it's the same story as their soprano reeds; they are not quite as good as the best cane reed in my case, but very close and certainly better and more consistent than many of the rest of the cane reeds in the box.

I think that the "not as good as the best cane" comment is due more to habitual use than actual *sound*. I have been using synthetic reeds for many years now on all of my clarinets--effer, sopranos and bass--as well as all of my saxophoes and I always am complimented for how well my instruments sound. I play in a regional professional symphonic orchestra and several wind ensemble and a sixteen piece big band and use either Legere or Forestone reeds for all. Rather than almost as good or not as good, I would say "better than" in describing the sound of my synthetics, not to mention the no-hassle care these reeds require--no moistening, no break-in period and no tedious balancing required (although I do alter the tip areas sometimes to tweak resistance) Forestone and Legere reeds let you play your instrument without worrying if the reed is going to work. They always do--and never die halfway through the gig.
As for bass clarinet specifically, I have some prototype bass clarinet reeds that Forestone sent me two years ago (sadly, never made available to the public) and some Legere bass reeds, 3.0 & 3.5 that I have been using since I bought my Buffet Prestige low C bass from Lisa--nine years or more (can't recall the exact year). What's important is that Legere reeds play, for me, better than cane ever did and they last forever. Synthetic reeds are the "thing" of the future, and for us clarinetist's, the future is here.....and it is good.

Hi William.....always enjoy your posts about synthetics and, like you, wish Forestone had continued developing a bass clarinet version. Recently got a #3 tenor sax reed and it's passable but for me the standard Legere bass reeds still work best.
Have you had an opportunity to try the new Signature line as yet and if not, any future plans to do a review for the board? The price here (Toronto) is about twice that of the Legere standard which seems steep when compared to the price point differences of the other versions.

I thought I'd share my thoughts of these reeds.
The signature bass reeds work very well for me, as good as cane, if not better.
I recently switched from the Pomarico mpc to a Selmer H**, and they work very well on both. I only wish they came at a number higher than 3... Any word about that?
I also tried a few classic bcl reeds and I didn't like them as much. For me, the response and dynamic range as well as the tone "color" were more to my liking with the signatures.

I just checked on WWBW and I could order upto strength 4 in the standard cut.
Maybe theyre out of stock on the harder strenghts where you are?

According to a chart on the legere website, the bcl signatures go up to 3.
The classic cut I tried were, btw, 3.75.

I tried the Signature tenor sax reed and didn't like it at all. But I've never liked using a tenor reed on my bass whether cane or synthetics. For me they felt thin and 'reedy' (not cane) with little or no richness of sound. Sort of like when describing a person as having a reedy speaking voice.
I use the Legere regular bass reeds on a semi-regular basis and always for outside gigs. I'm not rushing to try the Signature due to it's price here (Toronto) at just shy of $40 which is almost double that of the regular model. Not yet convinced it's going to be twice as good and it would be nice to hear from those who consistently tout synthetic reeds as to their thoughts and experience.
