Forgive me if this is a repost, but it is a fun and informative video nevertheless, telling us again what we already knew about musicians, especially clarinet players :)

I did not comment on this the first time because I am a bit of a "Debbie Downer" on this subject. But since the opportunity has again presented itself......here goes.

The real world work-a-day musicians are quite a mixed bag of intellect. In fact some of the finest instrumentalists I have met are as dumb as rocks. Or to say this another way, though some of the finest minds the world has known DID also play instruments many of them cannot even carry a tune.

There is also mention of the corpus callosum in this piece. They say this connective tissue between left and right hemispheres of the brain develops more with execution of musical talents. Well women already HAVE larger corpus callosums then men, yet all of the great musicians throughout history are NOT just women (of course one must acknowledge the gender bias of previous generations), and no one in their right mind today would say one gender has a lock on musical talent.

Music may help, just like any other mental activity, but I don't see it as anything particularly unique.
