I saw this at a music store the other day, but the store didn't let me try it. I understand it's not exactly new, but it was the first time I've seen or heard of it. What kind of a difference is there between this one and the regular Versa? Or is it just marketing hype (I'm personally skeptical of any product that has an added X in its name...)? It's slightly cheaper than the Versa, but cost has never been a definite factor in what makes equipment "better." I'd try it out for myself, but unfortunately I won't be able to for a while. Is there anyone who has tried both ligatures and would like to indulge my curiosity? =)

I prefer the regular Versa. While the Versa-X feels and sounds fuller, it also feels less stable in comparison. That's just my experience, though! I enjoy the feel and response of the regular Versa.

have you tried it with cradle covered or exposed?

I floated between both and tended to prefer the cradle exposed. With the cradle covered on the X, it felt slightly constricted to me. However, I prefer the stability of the regular Versa while having the cradle covered and thick plate installed.
