I'd take it with you on the plane. They might charge an extra fee or they may make you store something else under the plane so you can carry your clarinet, but the only 100% safe way to take it is to keep it with you at all times. It's an expensive instrument. It would cause me more stress not having it with me than carrying the extra weight around with me would.
