Hi
I havent played in years and at best was intermediate in abilities. I struggled with my BH 1010 I always found it hard to play it has the number 1 marked on it (the mouth piece that is)
I recently bought a lyrique 576
so the question essentially is what mouth piece should i try? The vandoren b45 seems to crop up a lot.
I understand the 1010 is a wide bore but I thought I might try the new Lyrique576 thats coming before i plunge into a new mouthpiece but it seems the general consensus is that stock ones can be bettered.
I also bought the Rydenour reed system thing.
Whats the go with reeds? Any brands types to get?
Thanks

You could have done a lot better than the Boosey mouthpiece, perhaps a Pillinger?
But the 1010s have all sorts of problems and you're much better off just letting go.
For me, the standard (average) mouthpieces for a French bore clarinet are the Vandoren 5RV Lyre, M13.....and you might add Masters CL4 and M30 to that list.
I refer to the facing and what 'works' mainly. As an average (ONLY) I'd recommend trying 3 or 3 1/2 strength Vandoren V12. This is NOT to say this is gospel, only a starting point if you need a place to "jump in."

I have a 576 ridenour. For whatever reason, a b40 lyre works very well on mine. But i dont like this mpce on my other clarinets.

The 1010 mouthpiece was designed specifically for the wide bore 1010 and has a completely parallel bore as opposed to most Boehm system mouthpieces.
It will not tune correctly with any Boehm clarinet with a typical French style bore e.g. 14.5 - 15.0 mm whether cylindrical, tapered or polycylindrical.
The B&H mouthpieces were made in 3 lays marked 1 - 2 - 3
The No. 1 was the closest lay, the No.2 was by far most common/popular.
