 WindWorks of Washington (SuperBand)
Author: DavidBlumberg

Newly formed group of top D.C. Military Band players/Alumni/Natl Sym., and invitation only members from across the USA.

I played in the 1st section of 26 Clarinetists (all could be Principal), and ended the concert playing 3rd Chair after I was done filming (I wore 2 hats, Clarinetist/Producer).

Check it out http://www.YouTube.com/blummy24x7

Had the pleasure of meeting and performing with our board's Larry Bocaner from the Natl. Sym./Catholic Univ.

Quick link to the band playing (live video with players visible) is

I won the Navy Band Audition in 1988 with the highest score up to that date was told by John Coulehan who led the Section then.
Took a different path, but also have taught with several of the Navy Band's Principal members at a Music Festival I was the Clarinet Faculty of in the late 90's

Was an extreme blast.

Even the asst principal of the Marine Band (soon to be principal is my guess) was so excited that couldn't sleep after the Concert.

I'd figure they would be jaded, but nope!!!

I worked on this from when I got home at 1:00 AM till 11PM........the night after.

Haven't had a chance to listen to it but a very good friend of mine also played there and said it was a real blast (Laura).

Great stuff; lots of memories. Navy Band was led by Capt. Gambone, son of Ralph Gambone, my pal in Junior and Senior high school in Allentown. Alburtis Meyers was our high school band conductor. Julius Karner and George Silfies sat next to me. (That's why I went to engineering school ). Few such bands around any more.

Very cool Richard!!

btw - the sound you hear is from my Ipad with an external Mic which was behind the Conductor (could not go further, or crowd noises would be picked up)

The audio from the camcorders is great, and will be synched eventually.

So this is just a taste of what the group can do.

Today I also put up the whole Concert Video in 2 parts.

Mammoth lineup of works - easily could have been another Concert.

At the bottom of the playlist

This was way more fun than an Opera - more like a Shost 10, or something similar.

Russ Gross from the Navy Band.

Col. Gabriel's stage manager is ours also. Possibly he will guest conduct sometime.

I am sure, DB, that not inviting me to play clarinet was just an oversight notwithstanding all the extremely talented players you must have had to choose from. Probably, many other clarinetist's who "live" on this BB also feel kind of "left out" and will await the next opportunity to "have a blast" with this super band.

Of course, I'm just kidding a bit, but still.....we can only dream what it must be like to play in a section made up of many of the finest pro's in DC. I'll be waiting to view the video that you put together--thanks for producing and posting. Great sounds.........

I don't have any paid tracks, so there's no $ in it for me viewing.

Wow! I'm "speechless." Will this recording be available for purchase? Is there a list somewhere of the various musicians?

Also looking into SmartMusic as another venue - we can play anything, so rarely recorded works could have a chance to shine there too.

From video it there appears to be a very high percentage of ladies in the clarinet section. Is this representative of the current personnel levels in US miltary bands?

All players seem beautifully composed throughout the recording with exception of one "wafty" male clarinetist - I take it he was one of the civilians!

Great playing from all involved - most lesser bands would kill to get that intonation and ensemble.

The Conductor asked for filmage. Eventually there might be a documentary, so that goes really well with it.
