 Yamaha ycl scgh barrel

thanks to all of you for the great resource that is available on this board!!
I have a used Yamaha ycl csgh coming in. It only has the 56.5 barrel, does yamaha make any other length of barrels for the CSG with hamilton plating, and where can you get them?

You must order them from Yamaha (through the dealer that got your clarinet). The shortest is a 53.8 (which in my opinion should have been the standard!). Or there are a few third party manufacturers that make them for this horn. Most notable amongst them is Alan Segal who made a WONDERFUL "fatboy" style (54mm) that I use on mine.

As an option you could also have your current barrel shortened. I had one of my Yamaha barrels shortened to about 54 mm and it works nicely with both my A and Bb Yamaha CSG clarinet. In fact, it really makes it possible to play in tune directly after swapping instruments even in a fairly cold room -- you simply swap both barrel and mouthpiece.

I've had a couple extra Yamaha ones (including the short one like Paul has mentioned), and also a few from Backun that worked pretty well for my CSG as well.

Just for kicks, I tried a MoBa barrel in 55.5mm. ;)

Last time I conferred with Backun, he only would make the "Protege" barrel in the 54mm length. I think it has to do with having to actually entirely rework the blank because of the 'rings' on either side and the market is much smaller for us CSG players (understandably so).

The MoBa I have is actually a re-worked blank for the 60mm Rossi clarinet barrel, down to 55.5mm. But it works quite well! For lack of a better description, it is easier to "fill" at higher volume levels when I have the odd orchestra gig and need to project over a string section that plays too loudly. ;)

Us CSG players are definitely a small market. I've only met one other person out near me that plays it, and nearly all my students are on R-13's just to avoid the stigmatization that comes from not following the herd. Ugh.
