Hi Tyler,
I'm no expert on ligatures and I know you will get plenty of comments on this one. You might want to rethink the metal ligature idea. I use the standard and inverted Bonades and I usually sand the inside of the ligatuers to keep them from slipping. I also play on the zinner made mouthpieces and I feel it really opens up the sound for me. I had used a mark III before and it just muffled the sound way to much, maybe the rovner versa ligs might be an option for.

I don't advocate spending your way out of a problem, however, I could not help but notice that Frederic Weiner has the Vandoren Leather with plastic cap for $48.00. Since this was your favorite and it's only a price differential of $21.00, I'd go ahead and bite the bullet on this one.
