 Poulenc's "Voyageur Sans Bagages"

Poulenc's "Voyageur Sans Bagages" was played recently for the French radio, and I was unaware of the existence of this piece. It is film music to a play which Milhaud also wrote music to and became his trio for violin, clarinet and piano. The instrumentation to the Poulenc piece is oboe, clarinet, violin, cello, piano: just the kind of thing we need! Does anybody know who publishes this? I imagine it is only on hire and would involve mortgaging one's house.

Probably J.W. Chester or Salabert, both of which use G. Schirmer as their US agent.

According tp "The Music of Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) : A Catalogue by Carl B. Schmidt, Poulenc's Voyageur Sans Bagages" is unpublished. Ruben, you might try contacting the radio network to find out who the performers were. One of them might be able to point you in the direction of the music. If there are any foundations or societies dedicated to Poulenc or libraries dedicated to the preservation of his works, you could try them. (Sorry I can't think of any ideas you probably haven't already figured out for yourself.)

Best regards,
jnk

Jack and RMK: Many thanks for your excellent suggestions that I will follow up on. When I get the right information, I will inform you and all our readers (is that the right word for people that use a blog?), because we could all do with another Poulenc piece and with something of that configuration. When you can only rent the music, the cost is usually prohibitive, all the more as you have to pay performing rights on top of that.

Hi Ruben,

If you can find a copy of the Schmidt catalog in a library, it may give additional useful information. I found the "unpublished" indication in a chronological listing of Poulenc's works in an appendix at the end of the online "teaser" excerpts from the catalog. Unfortunately, the online "teaser" does not include the detailed listing for FP 123.

An eBook copy of Schmidt's catalog is not cheap, BTW -- $US 200! A hard copy from Amazon was more "reasonably" priced at $US 168.55 shipping (to the U.S.) included. [frown]

Best regards,
jnk
