Since the weather is (finally) getting lovely where I live, I realized I had never thought about playing some music across the road at the park where I live (no worries, it's legal here, but I wouldn't be playing for money either, just for fun!). But I was wondering, have any of you played your clarinet (or any other instrument for that matter) by yourself, without accompaniment or the like, in a park-type setting? If so what music did you play? Or does anyone have suggestions? I'm open to pretty much any style of music.

Don't forget there is a bunch of "Music-Minus-One" material (you could hook your IPhone/pad up to a basic speaker) to give you some accompaniment.

It's called "busking". Players of all kinds of instruments do it all over my city.

I do it all the time in san jose downtown. Since the people dont care **** about like complicated music like poulenc sonata or stravinsky, just play something light and jazzy or maybe some mainstream music. I play with a guitar friend at times.

I have never heard of the music provider you have mentioned in your post but have just ordered a CD from them to see what they are like.
Pity that the shipping for me costs as much as the product ![[huh]](http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/smileys/smilie11.gif) but I can't find anything similar in the UK.

I've done solo busking before (well not quite solo - I took a portable stereo and some music minus one backing tracks). I played in a small town centre on market day, made loads of money. As Vubble says, probably best to steer clear of Poulenc, Stravinsky, Lutoslawkski etc. I played Stamitz, Weber and Mozart Concertos, plus the Brahms Sonatas and the Mozart Quintet.
I must do it again sometime, although I think I've lent most of my music minus one CDs to people who haven't given them back..oops.

Probably he wasn’t the first one. His three voumes „Der ‚Fluyten Lust hof” from 1644 contain plenty of (progressively challenging) diminutions on popular songs (e.g."Wilhelmus von Nassauen"), chorales etc. for recorder solo: Jacob van Eyck was a Dutch nobleman, blind, played the carillon at Utrecht churches and got a pay raise by the Senate for playing his “fluytlin” to please the visitors at the churchyard. When I was younger I loved playing them on soprano recorder- as far as I got. In case you're interested I'd gladly post two or three pages here as a specimen.
Round street musicians with ghetto blasters and “music minus one” I go to the other side of the street while, on the other hand, I’ve admired some really expert soloists (or groups of two or three), especially after the end of Soviet Union, who seemingly came here directly from the conservatory an played in the streets for a living. Btw., my son as a boy did the same with his clarinet, but I could’t reduce his check for that.

That sounds like a great idea! I often play outside in the summer months. We are fortunate enough to have our own fields to the back of our house. We have a few horses and llamas and no close neighbours ;-)

I've played unaccompanied outdoors. Not in a park, but in a garden that was part of a garden tour sponsored by our local Council for the Arts. I played some of the Bach unaccompanied cello suites, some Rose etudes, for a change of pace some JeanJean etudes and some show or movie tunes.
