Barrel vs open mic samples & effects

I've posted before here about my barrel mic setup, you can search for those or I can add links to those threads here on request. And I've also seen posts about the effect of mic position, processing etc on the quality of clarinet recording, and therefore on the validity of any comparisons of clarinet samples. (Because what seems like a big difference in sound quality might be the recording, not the clarinet / reed / ligature / playing technique / mouthpiece / chewing gum brand.)

These samples won't kill the arguments, but I do find my final processed clarinet audio from barrel mic to be not that different from how the clarinet sounds in the room- in basic clarinet sound. Though it is much better in some ways I care about. Barrel mic is the way to go!

The audio on this first video sample is just my DSLR's mic, open in my office. It's not completely pure acoustic clarinet because the barrel mic feeds into my laptop (Sonar) for reverb through my speakers, plus you hear my backing track. But it does pretty much reveal how the clarinet sounds in the room.

And here is the corresponding (simultaneously recorded) audio track from the barrel mic. Sounds rather puny. Note how it contains NO traces of the backing track evident on the DSLR audio. The barrel mic is very isolated, super convenient- screaming child in next room? lawn mower outside? no problem!
