For several weeks my Leblanc L200 has been at a repair shop in Fresno California.( for a crack ) They said they were bringing someone out of retirement to do the repair. I sent the clarinet without a barrel and mouthpiece. now they want me to send my barrel and mouthpiece to them so they can test the clarinet. I know they sell clarinets, so they would have no problem using their own. has anyone ever heard of such a request?

They just want to see how it plays with it's own equipment, a reasonable request for a serious repair facility. They can also check the tuning.

The barrel should have stayed with the horn, the mouthpiece request sounds a bit odd to me, unless they just want to make sure it's all corked up like new.

I agree with Paul. Any repairman that plays the instrument, and they should, should be using their own mouthpiece. Of course the barrel should have gone with the clarinet. If it's a real good mouthpiece ask them why they need it.

I can understand the request for the mouthpiece if the repair person wants to make sure the cork on it fits properly into the barrel. Since I'm a flea market cockroach with clarinets that span a fairly extreme range of ages (1880s through early 2000s) and brands, I've got some mouthpieces that I've corked especially for the clarinets on which those mouthpieces sound best. Some of those mouthpeieces are too tight or too loose for some other clarinets' barrels. Less of a problem when you'r using all-modern instruments, but it can happen.

which MPC you have on it? C85? C85 has its own intonational quirks.
I am with Lelia, there is some variation on MPC barrel socket sizes. I have a couple MPCs which had cork sand down to fit into older instruments.

You haven't said whether you're playing on another clarinet while waiting. If you're using the mouthpiece while the shop has your instrument, then sending it to them for whatever reason is an inconvenience to you. If you're not playing while you wait for the clarinet to be returned, then unless it's irreplaceable you may as well send it and speed up the process.

I now have my Ridenour Lyrique clarinet, so I am very happy. A friend will be driving to Fresno on Monday and will be taking my barrel and mouthpiece with her. On the Leblanc I use a Backun barrel, on the Lyrique I prefer the barrel that came with it.

I was able to go with my friend to Fresno and brought home the clarinet today. When handed the barrel the tech said, "oh yeah, I guess I was going to check the clarinet". He only played a scale for about 10 seconds. I was told they put in 13 pins and that it had many pins in it from previous repairs. I know the clarinet was in Missouri for several years, then a few years in the mountains here in California, then with me for a year in the San Joaquin Valley. Maybe so much change in climate and humidity caused it to crack again, or maybe it is just prone to cracking. Thanks for all your responses.
