Do people who play Vanodren V12's and Gonzales FOF's find this chart accurate?

http://www.gonzalezreeds.com/english/products.html#http://www.gonzalezreeds.com/images/products/gonzalez-reeds-clarinet-reed-comparison-index.png

I really don't feel like buying an entire box of Gonzales reeds just to know I bought the wrong strength, and the 2 packs of reeds that Gonzales claims to offer can't be found at any of the usual larger woodwind retails (Weiner, WWBW, Muncy) I tried.

Thanks.

It seems accurate for the strength and brands I play. I play on Gonzalez FOF 3.25 and I used to play Vandoren Traditional 3.5. My parents bought me my box of Gonzalez reeds for Christmas and I feel that they tend to run a tiny bit softer than the Vandoren Traditionals. Not enough of a difference for me to abandon the box though, they are great reeds and I have been using the same four since I opened the box, all of them play great. I bought one box V12s a few years ago and don't care much for them. They seem to be exactly the same as the traditional to me and they weren't worth the money.

I am a HS senior, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I may be completely wrong.:/

For strength 3.0, at least, the strength chart is dead-on accurate between F.O.F, Vandoren Traditional, and V12.

The Rico/Rico Royal/Plasticover section of the chart is, however, quite off the mark.

Greg...I'm not sure who's "3" strength you are referring to.

Are you saying that you find Gonzales 2.75's pretty close to Vandoren V12's "3s"?

I should've said an FOF 3.0. I imagine that if Vandoren made the V12 in strength 3.25, they'd match up closely to an FOF 3.0.

I haven't tried the FOF in 2.75; for me, the 3.0's are just perfect. But if I were looking to move from the V12 3.0, the FOF 2.75 is the one I would try first.

Greg: were you forced to play V12's, what strength box would you buy, 3.0 ......3 .5?

TPR: I'd buy V12 in 3.0, as they stiffen up (annoyingly) during the life of the reed.
