Does anyone know anything about the Bay-Gale mouthpiece. Are they rare and do they play well plus anything else about them. Thanks.

Years ago I recall Bay selling some mouthpieces under that name that were lower cost mouthpieces designed for the student market. This was prior to Hite Premiere, Fobes Debut, etc. I recall getting a couple for that purpose. They played fine. I don't recall whether they were hard rubber or plastic. I don't know if these would be the same thing as you mention or something different that he offered at another time.

Shortly after Dr. Bay moved from Ithaca to Southern California, he either entered into a partnership with the Gale mouthpiece company or purchased the remaining stock of mouthpiece blanks. For a short time, he re-worked the existing blanks to his specifications, and retained both names-- Bay-Gale. These mouthpieces are excellent quality pieces, as are the original Gale saxophone and clarinet mouthpieces.

Thanks Chet. That is what I suspected.

After a further search I found the following:

BAY-GALE (white big letters) (250 $) seams to be that this is one of the experimental and very rare mouthpieces, produced by two very well known masters - Charles Bay and M.C. Gregory (GALE mouthpieces were named after Gregory's daughter Gale), medium to open piece, comfortable with reads equal to #2.5-3.5 Vandoren Traditional (blue box).

I've got 8 Gale mouthpieces....different facings and different blanks. Half of them are Chedevilles. They are all marked as Charles Bay had marked his, right of the table. I'm assuming he had something to do with them. All play well.

As I searched around I remember that those I referred to only say Gale in large white script. Here is an example
