I just noticed that one of the Buffet mouthpieces that I had in a misc box has a small o on the side of the mouthpiece. Does anyone know if that is an Opperman designation for one of his early refacing jobs. I believe that this mouthpiece came with a set of instruments that I purchased from a the estate of a professional jazz musician out of Chicago. The o is not in a place that Buffet has ever put anything to my knowledge.

All of the Opperman clarinet mouthpieces have his name written all over them, several times. He was a great teacher and clarinetist!

Kal sometimes used stock Buffet mouthpieces as his blanks, but he thoroughly eradicated all traces of the Buffet markings. And of course he completely remade things inside and out.
As Chet says, they have his name all over them.
What made them so good is that you sat with him in his studio while he made minute adjustments to make them play best with your embouchure, reed style, barrel and clarinet.
