 choosing barrel size.

It seems, along with the choice of barrel types, we also have a choice of barrel size. I've seen several makes with sizes varying by a few millimeters and one brand, the Eddie Daniels, which simply sells three models without mention of size.
I play on an old Buffet Evette with a M14 mouthpiece and Rovner ligature. Sounds to me like I'm "in-tune". Would longer or shorter barrels change the tuning of my horn ? Any adivce and or suggestion would be appreciated.

A "shorter" barrel will make you play "sharper"
A "longer" barrel will make you play "lower" (flatter)

I play a very similar rig.

The best tuning/tone combination I have found is with a Chadash barrel.

Like all the other aftermarket stuff, you will derive best results from playing prior to paying.

Check out Brenda Siewert for stock.

I have also tried the Moening, Fobes (rubber lined), Click! and Accubore.

The Chadash offes most flexibility and best overall tunig.

Wayne--Check the pitch level of your instrument after playing it for a few minutes (warming it) with a tuning meter. If you are still low in pitch (flat) with the barrel pushed all the way in, then you need a shorter barrel. If you are a bit high in pitch (sharp) and that can be corrected by pulling your barrel joint a little bit, then you are ok with your present barrel. If you have to pull it more than 3/8s of an inch (too far) than you need a longer barrel. Once you have determined to length of barrel that you require, then I do recommend trying a similar length Chadash barrel (or an old Springer barrel, if you can find one) to improve the tonal focus and response of your intrument. But first, and mas importante, you must be "in tune." Good clarineting!!!!!!

I really don't understand this aftermarket barrel stuf. I tune up by ullying up on the barrel of my horn. What is a chadash, etc? Are the specialized barrels available for C clarinets, and is this something I really need to worry about?
Thanks for any light you can shed on this subject.
