I'm talking here about soprano/sopranino eefers now, not altos. I am interested in getting one, but I am having a bit of trouble finding something suitable. My choices seem to be as follows: 1. Something in the multi-kilobucks catagory like an R13 or some other high dollar item. 2. A cheap plastic Chinese clarinet. 3. Something from Germany that has a mystery key system that may be Allbert or Ohler or Muller or they aren't sure but they only cost $75. Do I have to learn a a whole new system or spend my kids' inheritance to play an Eb?

A Bundy or Vito will be fine. More depends on the mouthpiece than on the instrument.

I regularly see student to intermediate Eb models offered on ebay so just keep looking.
Normandys and Noblets are a bit more expensive than the plastic Bundys and Vito but are still not expensive so plenty of choice there.

+1 Ken is 100% right, the Bundies and Vito eefers your best option and they go for 200-300$ on "that site".
If you keep looking you may find something better for under <500$, there are a few Noblets and Penzel-Muellers which went for less. But this is going to be hard. Maybe 2nd hand E11, for 1K+.
non-Bb clarinets are rare, expect to pay premium for Eb, A and C.
Also expect to pay premium for MPC. Noblet 2V for Bb ~10-15$ but for eefer $70+.

I took Ken Shaw's advice a few months ago re. Bundy Eb clarinets. He said they're indestructible and you can't go wrong. So I bought one off "that site." I agree with Ken's comment. I will update the mpc with a VanDoren M30 for Eb (Weiner Music) next month (as recommended by a BBoard member who normally uses almost the same mpc that I use on my Bb). I got mine for $250 and feel it was a good deal. The Eb is fun to play but very challenging. Not something you play once or twice a week and hope to play well the next time you pick it up. It needs to be played almost daily. Jessica Phillips has some great videos on youtube with pointers on playing the Eb.

I had a new Bundy in the early 1980s ... it was so SHARP overall and so out of tune that I donated to a High School. I just cost me $400.00 new. However, those were my "biting" days ... I played sharp on everything ...
Later a found a 1968 vintage Selmer Series 9 that was very good. I sold it a few years later for a good price and the clarinet professor at a local university was glad to get it.

Maybe their is one but, and we've seen quite a few (obvious reasons), we've yet to see an Eb clarinet from SE Asia that we would recommend.

Pewd, my response to you was poorly phrased. It came across as what it was, a knee jerk reaction. I should not have been so thin skinned about your attempt to sort out why I wanted the eefer so that you could point me in the right direction to an appropriate clarinet. So that's it! It's decaf for me from now on.
