My Metal Selmer Sterling(French)clarinet is a Boehm without the micro tuning barrel so its early(1929?) the serial No is confusing me, its 4300, looks like the first one of a new lot, but I am having trouble tracing it, help and information would be good if anybody has any.

Hi
I too am interested in this having bought the same model, with serial 4346, just over a year ago. Mine had been previously advertised as 1934, but as there is no letter prefix I think it is probably 1929 or 1930 according to
http://www.uark.edu/ua/nc/ClarinetCollections/SELMER%20CLARINET%20SERIAL%20NUMBERS.htm
I have found two other mentions of these Selmer Sterling metal clarinets.
One is a record of sale of serial 4301 at Christies in London for £66 in 1993 (http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/LotDetailsPrintable.aspx?intObjectID=3599528 - no picture)
The other is a posting about an Albert system clarinet which may well have its serial number in the same series (4944)
http://jazzkjeld.typepad.com/neworleansdelight/2011/04/selmer-metal-albert-clarinet.html
According to this posting, there were two models, "Master" and the cheaper "Sterling" which is illustrated and looks very similar in construction to the Boehm. The author also has a page with info about the history of metal clarinets
BTW - I very much like your sound on the Till there was you You Tube posting.
