I am looking at Eb clarinets and I ran across one, a Paolo Mark. They are advertised as being from Ireland. I wonder though. I just don't think of Ireland as being rich in clarinet history and lore. Besides that, Paolo just doesn't sound very Irish to me. Does anyone have any information on the company or the instruments?

Well, happy Paddy's day to you anyway.
Nobody is making clarinets here. Marco Polo instruments come up all the time on Irish second-hand sites - perhaps that's something to do with it? Although a corny marketing ploy does seem to be the most likely explanation.

I finally got an answer from one of the sellers, a retailer. They tell me that these are made in China as previously proposed. Thay are made in a factory in Beijing. There is a seller on a particular internet auction site that advertises these as coming from Ireland.

I do recall flying on a commuter plane out of Philly years ago that was made in Ireland and as I recall John DeLorean made his automobile there. And then there's those Tin Whistles and "Shileleghles".....but no clarinets.

Not quite April 1 yet, but anyway,
It's a little-known fact that St. Patrick had a companion, St. Uillienn, who exterminated all the clarinets in Ireland during the 5th Century.
The Chinese are doing their best to re-infest the island with clarinets, but the damp climate stunts their growth and covers their pads with leaky green moss.
