I played on a ca. 1980s Marcellus mouthpiece (13) for years, using Morre reeds and Buffet R13 Bb and A clarinets. I then switched to a VanDoren M13 Lyre Profile 88 and Van Doren traditional reeds, strength 4 (later Rue Lepic 3.75). Next I moved to a M30 Lyre Profile 88 Van Doren and Rue Lepic strength 3.5. Same Buffet clarinets. Are the Marcellus mouthpieces currently available similar to the "old" Marcellus mouthpieces of the 1980s? I have been trying Pilgerstorfer Morre reeds and like them, but feel they might work better with a mouthpiece other than the M30. What other mouthpieces available do players recommend? I play primarily orchestral and chamber music.

I wonder if you tried the NON Lyre M13? There seem to be a number of fine players that like the M30 and get good results with 3 1/2 reeds. If the $300 is not too outrageous a jump I'd also suggest looking at the Greg Smith line (I've had a lot of luck with the Kaspar copies).
