My teacher was telling me that he's had a lot of success with these specialty reeds and he told me that I should try them because I have a hard time finding reeds that have enough resisitance. I was wondering before I invest in a few, what anybody else's experiences have been with them, bad or good. I already have two boxes that will last me a good while, but if the reeds are worth it then I might buy a box. Thanks for any comments you might have. lol

These are german reeds for the german clarinet, they are smaller than the "regular" vandoren reeds and you will need german mouthpieces for them. IMO, the german reed / moutpiece combination is easier to tongue due to their smaller size. Indeed they seem to have higher resistance and they need more air support. I currently use Rico Royal german reeds of size 3. There are also postings regarding Black Master reeds a few days ago in this BB

Well my teacher and I play the same mouthpiece, Greg Smith kaspers, and he hs had an overwelhmeing success with them. An I think ours are French mouthpieces.

I play on the German Black Master Reeds and you DO NOT need a German mp. I use the K10M mp and it works fine. It all depends on how you feel with those reeds because they are smaller but sometimes they are good. With my ligature Black Masters are too small for it so I have to put my ligature in the "wrong" spot. I have to but the top of the ligature right underneath the line on the rred instead of the line on the mp. So you can use Black Master Reeds on your mp. I think 'cause I have never played on the one you have. If they will work for your teacher you shouldn't have a problem with them. Now they might be hard because they are harder so soak them before you use them (you should do that anyway). I hope this helps.

I use the blackmasters on my Bb and A clarinets. The whitemaster works great on an Eb mouthpiece. Since the blackmaster is a little smaller than a french cut reed, you have to be very accurate placing it on the mouthpiece.
