I have a Vandoren CL5 mouthpiece and have just tried a new M/O ligature. As far as I am concerned it works well for me.
I am having problems with the ligature slipping off of the mouthpiece which has quite a high taper.
Has anyone experience of metal ligatures slipping off of mouthpieces?
Any remedies?

The taper of the Master's mouthpiece has an odd shape and will NOT work for a majority of standard metal ligatures (most spectacularly the Vandoren Optima). That said, any of the soft body ligatures work great (Vandoren Leather, Rovner etc) and also the spidery metal ligatures seem to work as well such as the Spriggs.

Might also depend on reed. Most synthetics are slippery, cane reeds hold ligatures more securely.

I use a synthetic reed
Vandoren state that the CL5 mouthpiece should only use an M/O ligature (or fabric).
Shall have to go back to my fabric band if I can't fix this.

Sometimes a mouthpiece patch or piece of electrical tape on the top of the mouthpiece can provide the necessary friction.

I had slipping problems using metal ligatures on the VD crystal mouthpieces. I fixed that by gluing an ultra thin piece of cork on either side of the inside of the metal ligatures.
However mostly I now use the VD leather ligature and that has no problems with slipping on crystal.

Small piece of tape on either side of the mouthpiece stops the ligature slipping forward.
Seems obvious now I have done it.

Don't underestimate the Luyben just because it's cheap. It matches or exceeds most other ligatures in getting the most out of a setup. And it pretty much fits itself to the MP you're using and doesn't slip.
I see them more and more in public performances.
