there's something about the bass clarinet, it looks wicked and sounds interesting. would u master the clarinet 1st before trying the bass clarinet? I tell u I would feel proud to hold a bass clarinet, there's something about it. I noticed the fingering is the same but it requires more air yeah.

There's a skinny 14 year old girl in our church orchestra that plays a Leblanc bass pretty well so I doubt it takes much more air than a Bb. She does complain that crossing the break on my Bundy bass is too hard compared to her school owned Leblanc. But that might be more due to my mpc. I prefer a resistant mpc.

I was exactly like you two years ago. Ever since i switched to bass i've loved my experiences so far. But now i'm in an orchestra playing clarinet and i love it. Now i'm switching back to soprano to advance farther.
