I live in Garmisch, Germany, and last night I had the wonderful experience of hearing Sabine Meyer live in concert. She played a Stamitz concerto and a Carl von Weber concerto, both of which I really liked. Now I'm looking to buy a CD of hers. does anyone have any favorites?

I currently have a CD that contains the Mozart K622 Clarinet Concert played by her. It also includes Claude Debussy's Premiere Rapsodie. If I'm not wrong, she records exclusively for EMI Records only

She has done a recording of all (I think?) the Stamitz Concertos. Great playing.

I've got a recording of the concertos no. 3, 10, 11 (Carl Stamitz) and the Concerto B-Dur (Johann Stamitz). It's "EMI CLASSICS" CDC 7548422.
I've heard her some weeks ago in Zürich where she played together with (a part of) the "Wiener Streichsextett" the Mozart Quintet. Her tone was so beautiful that the strings beside her sounded in my ears kind of squeaky although they also played wonderfully.

Her recording of the Stamitz concerto N0 5 (Eb major) is stunning!

It gets lots of local radio play, and is currently unavailable in the US (also on EMI classics).

Lucky to hear her in person....

Jealous in the US

I have an EMI recording of her playing the Weber Quintet. She also plays the Mendelssohn Concertpieces for 2 Bassethorns on the disc with her brother. Great playing by both of them.

I heard Sabine Meyer about three years ago. She played the Mozart Concerto with the Milwaukee Symphony. She simply made the concerto come alive on her basset clarinet. She is a very active player, physically. She steps around on stage. I had the wonderful opportunity to talk with her afterward. A chance meeting outside the building, only a couple minutes. Her impression she made is still with me three years later. I feel very lucky to have heard her live.

Look at this link for EMI and you will find things she has recorded (along with everyone else)

See my notes in Master Class subject from March 30? or so. I got to go to one of her masterclasses in Toronto as an observer and then to her concert the next night. I have several of her recordings and hearing her play only reinforced my admiration.

I have her Mozart and Weber CD and I just got her "Night at the Opera" CD. It's awesome! The Rossini is especially good. It's out of print in the US- I got it in Montreal on my class trip.

JC -

Sabine Meyer's recording of the Weber concertos is one of the very best. The Sneezy recordings database says it's on EMI Records # CDC 7 47351 2. I believe it's now been reissued in a less expensive version.

Best regards.
